Indie-pop group The Brights are four fellas from Chelmsford who, now armed with their debut album of heartfelt melodies, warm, sparkly guitars and upbeat rhythms, are planning a pop music revolution; think the jangle breakthrough of postcard and c86!
Things began when the band released their first 7" and download single 'It Wont Be Long Now', on Bitterscene Records in February 2008. Having attracted attention from Berlin based indie label Firestation Records, a demo by the band was included on Firestation's New British Invasion compilation album, which also featured The Bishops, Lodger, Milburn and the Pipettes to name a few.
A release in Japan followed with indie label Fastcut Records, a ltd 7" single version of 'London Belongs To Me' selling out within a month, which subsequently directed attention to imports of the earlier UK Bitterscene single entering the Japanese market in March 2008.
The band were then signed by Rimeout Recordings and 'Chandelier Souls E.P.' followed on general release. In the light of the E.Ps success, the band toured Japan in late summer 2008 taking in 8 sell out dates, national radio sessions and in store event signings at HMV towers, Tokyo. The band's personal highlight of the tour was a sold out fan-club gig with friend and singer-songwriter Hideki Kaji.
2009 saw the band continue their explorations with a number of dates across Europe, including three consecutive sold out gigs in Paris, a show case in Berlin and an appearance at the Rock Square Festival in Senlis, France. Upon returning to the UK, several festival appearances saw them share bills with These New Puritans, The Holloways, Finlay Quaye and friends Noah and the Whale.
The band have also picked up the support of BBCs Gary Crowley, receiving spot plays on 6 Music and being selected as a featured artist on BBC's 'London Calling'. XFM's Steve Harris had earlier aired a demo on his Music:Response show. More locally, the band have received spot plays from long term supporters on BBC Essex, BBC Bristol, BBC Kent, Chelmsford FM, as well as on a host of indie internet based stations in Germany, Spain, France, Japan and the States.
2009 was bought to a close with a headline gig at Camden Barfly, bringing a successful year of London dates, which included O2 Academies, ULU and The Borderline, to a successful end.
So far, 2010 has revolved around the band's recording of their debut album in London's 360 studios with producer Fraser Smith (Shed 7, Ian Brown, Little Man Tate). The first single from the forthcoming record will be released in late October 2010 along with a 9 date UK tour. Full details of the release to follow VERY shortly!
So make it to a gig, buy a copy of the single and make sure you tell your friends; Pop music is about to get good again.
